Give us meat to eat

Genesis 9:2-4 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

These are our chickens. They are special chickens. They dont lay eggs. Their lot in life is simple. Grow big, grow fast....and be harvested. They are intended to be meat for my family. We had a bad season with our birds this year as well as our garden. We started with 20, but we're down to 12 now. Only one of the 20 ended up in the pot. That one was the great big one you see in the middle of the picture.

These chickens have grown without the hormones and medications found in the chicken at the local supermarket. They've been allowed to free-range the yard and eat bugs and seeds and grass and I've given them shelled corn and scraps as well.

I have always had a weak stomach and that makes it hard for me to decide that the time has come for harvesting. These birds have a way of letting me know when it's time. the Lord has been kind to me and over the years has strengthened me and my stomach whenever the times comes to put meat in the freezer.

Its all part of His great plan for them and for us.

I find it odd that God has told us not to eat the blood of the animals and yet it is the Blood of Christ which is our remedy, our only hope....our life, our hope lies only in the Blood. His blood.

  1. I'm glad we don't eat the blood! But I am glad for the meat! :-)
